They are made of bits of glossy magazine pages, but I don’t mean the ones made of rolled strips that are wound around a glass vase while being glued together.

The one I’m talking about is made of tiny paper triangles, made by folding paper. The triangles at about an inch on the longest side. They sort of nest into each other, with little triangular flaps that tuck into the adjacent paper triangles. It gives the vase a sort of hedgehog-like look. The finished vase looks lacquered or maybe painted with a clear-drying glue; it’s a bit glossy. I saw a few of them in a little upstairs arts and crafts gallery in the International Market Place in Honolulu about 10 years ago (can’t remember gallery name). I don’t know what that style of origami is called. When I search for origami, I get instruction for tiny vases made of single pieces of paper. This vase I’m talking about is made of hundreds of tiny pieces, folded and interlocking.

Does anyone know what I’m talking about? I can’t even find pictures, because I don’t know what it’s called. I want to make one myself.
@angelsmom10: yes, that’s exactly it! Shame it’s so difficult to find instructions… and there’s no special name for that type of craft?
